Background of the Study
Nurses are exposed to various types of risks in their work environments, which have a significant impact on their wellbeing. For instance, long working hours and the exposure to heavy loads among nurses emerged as significant contributors to the advancement of Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), especially on the lower back, knees, shoulders, wrists, and hands (Soylar & Ozer, 2018). The purpose of this study was to establish some of the work-related conditions that enhanced the susceptibility of nurses to MSDs to recommend solutions to mitigate their adverse impact on the welfare of nurses (Soylar & Ozer, 2018). The study similarly provides crucial insights on the research question with its highlight of the identified workplace hazards and their implications on nurses' welfare.
On the other hand, Liu et al. (2019) explore the workplace hazard of violence meted out against nurses and its consequences on their welfare and quality of care prospects. The problem of workplace violence orchestrated by patients or members of their families portends significant implications on the effectiveness of nurses while discharging their duties. The study sought to determine the risk factors associated with physical and non-physical violence experienced by nurses (Liu et al., 2019). Gender considerations similarly emerged as a crucial determinant of the manifestation of workplace violence, thus exposing the extent to which nurses of either gender are susceptible to this workplace hazard.
