Three types of Research Designs
The three types of research designs that exist are; qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research designs; this is in accordance to Creswell (2003). Qualitative research design: this design is a method used by researchers to understand the meaning that groups or people ascribe to a human or social problem. In this design, the use of words is eminent. Quantitative research design: this is a means by which objective theories are tested. This is done by examining the relationship that exists amongst different variables. Unlike the case with qualitative research where words are used, numbers are used in this research design (Creswell, 2003). Mixed research design: this combines both quantitative and qualitative research designs and it therefore makes the overall strength of the research study greater compared to either quantitative or qualitative research. In this design, both numbers and words are put into use (Creswell, 2003). These three types of design are necessary in management research because they assist with the systematic inquiry that actually contributes to knowledge in the area of management. The three designs help to search methodically and scientifically for solutions to management problems.
There are several benefits that management research provides to organizations. Managers of business organizations have an increasing need for understanding the scientific findings and include them in their decision-making.
