Tremont Section of the Bronx and Riverdale Section in Bronx
This is a comparative assessment of the Tremont section of the Bronx, NY, and Riverdale in Bronx, NY. Tremont is located in the west Bronx, New York City, while Riverdale is located in the northwest Bronx. Tremont has a population of over 13,833 residents, and Riverdale has 13 599 individuals. This indicates that those living in Tremont are more than those in Riverdale. Furthermore, Riverdale ranks better in terms of health as compared to Tremont. This creates significant differences in health and wellbeing in these communities. There is a considerable difference between the income levels of the two communities. The average income in Tremont is $74 226, while that of Riverdale is $122, 911 (Point 2, 2022a). This means that Riverdale's people are wealthier than the people in Tremont. Living in poverty makes it hard to access health care to promote health and prevent illness. It also limits a healthy lifestyle and access to resources. Hence, income levels determine how easily residents of the communities will access better healthcare.
Unaffordable housing and unemployment are closely linked to poor health and poverty. The number of households in Riverdale is 5,557, with over 55 percent family establishments, while those of Tremont are 6, 579 with 38% being individually owned (Point 2, 2022a). This indicates that most people in Tremont live in rented houses, unlike in Riverdale, because of their low income. Employment determines the health accessibility of a community. The number of persons in white-collar jobs in Riverdale is higher at 82% than those in Tremont (Quane, n.d.). Housing problems or substandard housing affects the two communities' health negatively. Many infectious diseases are caused by contaminated water supply, overcrowding, and poor waste disposal.
Education is strongly associated with health determinants such as preventative care. Regarding education, 18% of the residents have attained a college degree in Riverdale, while in Tremont, 19 % of the individuals have a college degree (Quane, n.d.). Therefore, the number of educated persons in Tremont is higher than those in Riverdale. The education level in Riverdale and Tremont contributes to their health outcomes. High education levels lead to better access to healthcare than low education attainment, which causes self-reported poor health, shorter survival, and shorter life expectancy.
