What are the advantages and disadvantages of free health care?
In our current situation, it is very much evident that investing in health care is important to be prepared. While these health care plans are available to have, the majority of the people don’t have the capability to afford it. Some of them are being left helpless with the diseases that they have because of financial hindrances. That is why many government and non-government organizations are proposing the free health care policy.
Free health care is the right of everyone to seek quality health care services whatever status they may have in life (Napit, 2020). It intends to remove the financial and economic constraints that people may encounter in seeking health-related services (WHO, 2020). However, some of the people are in favor of free health care, while some are against the idea of it. In fact, the concept of free health care has a lot of advantages and disadvantages that are both important to tackle.
Among the many advantages of free health care, this policy increases the health and quality of life of the workers. It will reduce their chances of getting sick, and will also improve their productivity in the field (Kandie, n.d.). Another advantage of free health care is that it saves lives. Patients who need immediate care can easily go to the hospital for treatment. Lastly, free health care improves care given to children. It is important for children to have access to health care services for them to live a good life, and also because children are our future generation (Napit, 2020).
On the contrary, there are also several disadvantages of free health care. It could lessen the quality of service given by medical professionals. Since a lot of patients will seek medical help, the doctors and nurses will do their best to help as many patients as possible instead of diagnosing them properly (Napit, 2020). Also, based on a study, 85% of health-related problems are caused by the lifestyle that people have, and people who maintain a healthy lifestyle might feel that it is unfair to pay for other people’s bad choices in life (Kandie, n.d.).
