Why People Study Mental Health
Mental health is a range of psychological, emotional and social complications. The complications affect how people act, feel and think. It affects people’s decision making, relating with others and the ability to handle stress. When most students join higher learning institutions, they have high hopes of completing their courses and getting their respective career jobs. Healthcare is one of the most demanding courses mainly due to the complex nature of treating and providing care for the sick. Mental health is a particularly demanding course and most people who pursue it do so due to different motivational factors and interests.
The desire to help the sick and the needy in the society is one of the motivating factors that compel people to study mental health. People with mental health complications have numerous challenges. They struggle with disabilities and symptoms that accompany mental health including discrimination (National Center for Health Statistics, 2017). Some mental health students have the desire to help the needy in the society. Learning mental health enables students to understand how to care for mental health patients in the society. Patients with mental issues are unable to make use of major opportunities that improve the quality of life, including connecting with diverse groups.
