Migration of Carnival to US and Abroad
Carnival refers to a number of events that takes place every year in many parts of Caribbean islands. During carnival celebrations, people learn more about themselves and a lot about accepting and understanding other cultures. The journey of Caribbean Diaspora to the United States began many years ago, a time when the British took the enslaved Barbadians to South Carolina. Owing to this, most of the earliest people to arrive at the United States were from Caribbean. A large number of people followed this migration from British West Indies at the beginning of twentieth century. The third wave arrived between 1930 and 1965 while the fourth movement is going on today. These migrations have a great impact in Africa American society, and one of the effects is eradicating the traditional dichotomy that existed between black and white people that has been dominant in U.S. history (Nunley & Bettleheim, 1988). Many aspects of Caribbean culture, such as carnival, culture and music have entered mainstream America promoting unity and understanding .
