Compare and Contrast the Settlement Patterns
The settlement patterns in the New England region and the southern colonies are similar in that they were governed by Royal governors who were expected to maintain a sense of law and order (OpenStax, 2019). The Royal governors who led these colonies were appointed by the king and were supposed to pursue and oversee the interests of the kingdom within the colony. However, the two settlements differed in that in the New England colonies there were a limited number of slaves within the settlement, compared to the southern colonies where the presence of slaves was prevalent (Babochkin, 2020). The high presence of slaves in the southern colonies is attributable to the availability of rich soils that favored agricultural activities. In the New England colonies, a majority of the residents were religious reformers and separatists.
