THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES
The term Third World Countries was a term used during the Cold War to refer to countries especially those in Africa, Asia and Latin America which did not identify themselves with either the Eastern bloc of communists or the democratic bloc of industrial countries which were under American influence (One World, 2018).One thing that this countries had in common is that they were all newly independent from their colonialists and they were trying to build a new economic legacy other than that left by their colonialists (One World, 2018).The leaders of this countries believed that they could build strong democratic nations like the Western countries and promote rapid economic growth like the East without the materialism and state oppression in the two economic blocs (Tignor et al, 2009).Another common feature in the Third World Countries was underdevelopment. Being relatively new states, the third world countries were underdeveloped and they were in a rush to develop.
