Identification Paragraph Criteria-Criminal Case
In a court of law, a criminal case usually involves the government, represented by the attorney in many cases, the local police, the accused, grand jury and other law enforcement agencies, which may include the FBI. After it is reported that a criminal act has occurred, the suspect is arrested either by the local police, the FBI or any other law enforcement agency. They are brought to court within the next 24 hours after their arrest. In the court, during a criminal proceeding, it is the government that has a role of proving that the accused is guilty with solid evidences. In the pre-trial, the selected judge or judges informs the accused of what they have been accused of, listens to both sides and then later on listens to both sides of the story, both the defendant and the government. In case the accused cannot afford an attorney, the government must provide an attorney for the accused. In most criminal cases reported by the government, most accused people usually plead guilty and requests for a lenient sentence. A sentence to impose depends on the judge.
