I favor instituting a draft as an obligation and requirement by the government to the citizens to defend the United States when called upon. The draft benefits the country by solving the issue of recruitment and retention. It ensures that there are enough people available to meet the local needs so that international governments can’t wage war as a way to take resources. The draft enhances the defensive capabilities of a country as the soldiers will be ready thus foreign states planning to invade will find it challenging. Even if a war was waged in the homeland, a draft will allow for additional resources that might not be possible in a volunteer force. The draft can benefit a country be easing financial pressure of armed services support (Hansen & Weisbrod, 1967). When active, the conscription is cheaper than encouraging volunteers to join the force. If the service is mandatory,
