AN ESSAY ON SOME ASPECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING.
Global warming is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the Earth's atmosphere, primarily caused by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor. These gases trap heat from the sun within the Earth's atmosphere, causing the temperature to rise.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global warming is "unequivocal," with the global average temperature having already risen by 1.1 degrees Celsius since the Industrial Revolution (IPCC, 2013). If greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current rate, the global average temperature is projected to increase by an additional 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century (IPCC, 2013).
The effects of global warming are widespread and varied. On the positive side, some regions may experience milder winters and longer growing seasons, leading to increased agricultural productivity (Henderson et al., 2018).
