The Australian Tourism and Its Challenges
The tourism and hospitality industry in Australia is a significant contributor to the economy, with nearly 7.9 million international visitors in 2018-19, spending a total of $41.3 billion. The industry employs approximately 1.3 million Australians, representing 9.1% of the country’s total employment  (Shehawy & Abouzied, 2022). The industry also supports almost 500,000 businesses, with much of the activity centred in the major cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The Australian tourism and hospitality industry has faced numerous strategic and leadership risks in recent years, including the recent floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, world economic turbulence and political instability.
