A smooth working environment is the one that has its employees communicating with respect, bearing and accepting their personality difference among each other; respecting everyone's working methods; and respecting all the personnel in the organization despite their rank, position or tenancy. In a workplace where all these factors are not adhered to, conflict becomes inevitable. However, employers have significant management and human resource professional role in placing workers with the same odds to work together. Employers can also create a work routine to prevent possible conflicts among employees. The purpose of such cultures is to build a strong relationship, fairness, trust and respect among all individuals in the working environment at all levels. Adherence to all these factors can lead to increased employee productivity, loyalty, right working motivation reduced medical costs, minimal workers' compensation claims and reduced lawsuit costs
However, the working environment conflict is almost inevitable. It has various negative impacts to an organization which can include; absenteeism, the unplanned absenteeism affects the productivity of the company and the overall performance of the other employees. It can lead to reduced productivity where an organization spends a lot of time-solving conflicts among various individuals. Thus, employees will end up focusing on non-essential matters resulting in the organization losing money and essential resources (Brookins, 2016). Employees turnover effects is another negative impact caused by workplace conflicts. Various personnel in an organization may grow more frustrated and decide to end their membership. As a result, the organization will have to recruit new members; thus, in a situation where several members step down, the organization may be at risk of a project failure. Escalation of conflict and violence may be another negative impact of conflict in the workplace. When there is an increased misunderstanding between individuals in the organization without any mediation, it can result in violence, thus attracting legal issues for the individuals and possibly the organization.
