Introduction
There is much advancement which is related to human resource management that has taken shape in recent years. Some of those factors include fairness and the incorporation of considerate decision making for every identifiable group. Fairness does not translate to equality but it means equity in the way these groups are treated as far as human resource management is concerned. One of the identifiable groups which have attracted a lot of attention both ethically and legally is that of the disabled employees in the various workplaces. Disability groups in the workplace present an organization with ethical dilemmas and sometimes managers in the relevant fields make uninformed decisions during the various phases of human resource planning, control and engagement (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2016). The management is torn in between the reasoning that the disabled employees have some special requirements which require particular arrangements and budgetary provisions which would otherwise not have been made if a non-disabled employee was involved. The disabled require special care in organizations and when they are not treated fairly, this can amount to disability discrimination of the individuals. Human resource management is its broad perspective encompasses various ways and loopholes whereby the disabled employees can be discriminated against. Factors such as the work design, recruitment and selection, performance management, learning and development and so on are some of the key functions of the human resource department in any organization. They present special possibilities of bias against the disabled groups of both prospective and ongoing employees if the process of human resource management is not guided by virtues and principles of equity and fairness. This paper seeks to delve into the dynamics of discrimination based on disability and the relevant legal advancements which seek to protect the individuals. The paper shall discuss in details the problem statement, objectives of the study, significance of the study as well as the limitations of the study.
