There is a variety of work schedules available to both the employees and employers. Regardless of the type of schedule selected for adaptation, all work schedules share a common similarity; the employee does work as required by the employer form monitory compensation. Not every employee is able or willing to work with a fixed schedule, for these reasons, management experts have over the years developed techniques and workarounds to accommodate the available workforce CITATION Cot19 \l 1033 (Cote, 2019). According to research, there is a coloration between certain job goal setting and enhanced performance. Hence it is the responsibility of the management team to design work schedules that foster increased performance, motivate the employees, and a line with the future growth plan of the company in question.
Types of Work Schedule Developed to Motivate Employees.
A standard work schedule where employees work for a fixed number of hours for a fixed number of days is perhaps the most common work schedule across the globe. In this kind of setting, employees work for s set of days usually from Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. from an employee's point of view, this is an easy work schedule to manage with or without scheduling apps. On the other hand, this sort of schedule can be a source of friction towards the employer CITATION Eke18 \l 1033 (Eke, 2018). The authors consider a situation where there is some extra work in a firm that has to be completed with a set amount of time. There are two options available to the employer, hire extra help, or pay existing employees for extra time. What if the work is minimal to warrant such drastic measures? Alternative work schedules are the ideal mechanisms used to cushion and motivate the existing workforce.
A flexible work schedule is a schedule that allows employees to escape the normalcy of a standard/fixed schedule. In this type of schedule, the employee is free to with the employer’s guidelines to vary their arrival and departure time from work to best suit their other obligations CITATION Beu10 \l 1033 (Beutell, 2010). For example, an employee may choose to vary their arrival time and use this time to attend to other business, or the employee may choose to take a working day off and work on a weekend. According to a survey by YouGov.com, sixty-nine percent of the workforce prefers working earlier hours during the day while the rest varied their schedule between 7 a.m and 9 a.m as the ideal entry time. The Flexible work schedule is used to accommodate, motivate, and make this entire population productive.
