Introduction:
Evaluation of a business decision, involves assessment of the effectiveness of the decisions’ outcomes, upon its successful implementation (CliffNotes, 2016). Three months down the line of being employed as a marketing manager in an online meal service delivery company, the corporate was faced with a problem of high selling prices than that of its competitors in the same industry, which was negatively impacting on the company’s profits and general growth trend; to an extent of the proprietors’ thinking of closing down within a year, if things don’t work out.
Business Decision:
In collaboration with the production manager, we did identify that the causative factors of the high costs of production had its roots firmly anchored in the poor design packages of our food boxes, below par trained staff, and meal options besides flexibility. Being the Marketing manager I was tasked with coming up with the most effective decision within a period of three months, of tackling the problem, through making the meal packages more affordable, while at the same time reaching out to more clients, and competing more effectively in the meal delivery service industry the corporate by: redesigning or rebranding its meal box packages to attract more customers, capacity building and nurturing its staff to be creative in providing to its customers’ more menu and recipe options, thus allowing flexibility; which was to be achieved through in-hiring since it was affordable to do so, as well as for the reason that, the corporate had an added advantage of educated and trainable staff .
Influence:
To accomplish this, I involved the production and Human Resource managers: in decision identification, which was offering affordable meal packages prices; collecting all necessary information; pinpointing to various alternatives; assessing each of the alternatives, while ranking them according to those which can achieve the identified decision; and selecting from the ranked alternatives the most suitable alternative to achieve our decision. I ensured that, key stakeholders that included: loyal customers, managers, suppliers and the executive directors were involved to review the changes required to achieve the corporates objectives, who will be affected, the costs involved and the exact time of instituting the changes; which I achieved through, designing of a consistent and strategic communication plan that ascertained all stakeholders had received messages relating to the intended changes in a timely manner and in the appropriate form. The review supported us to establish better alternatives besides, any adverse effects that could impact on the staff, customers and the corporate's budget. Finally, after re-reviewing of the decision, it was decided that the decision can be implemented (Cummings & Worley, 2008).
Effectiveness:
The effectiveness of the decision-making process was analyzed through the basic methodology of establishing whether the decision had achieved its: goal, objectives, assigned tasks and whether it had been accomplished within the required time framework. First, I in collaboration with the production and human resource managers, effectively conducted the decision-making process, designed the appropriate actions to be taken and submitted them for review by all key stakeholders, and re-reviewed them for them for the final decision within the specified time framework of three months. Through involving the customers and suppliers through the decision-making process, and reviewing frequent feedbacks from them supported the corporate to come-up with: vertically integrated affordable meal package prices than the competitors, unparalleled rebranded meal box packages. On the other hand, capacity building and nurturing the corporates staff enhanced them to be more creative in coming-up with different vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu, besides recipes options, thus allowing for more dietary flexibility options. This, in general, has enabled the corporat...
