Mindfulness can be defined as the awareness of one’s self and the surrounding at the present moment (Hunter & McCormick, 2008). In some other instances, scholars have referred to mindfulness as the moment to moment awareness. In any workplace, distractions, large amounts of tasks, pressure from bosses, colleagues and family among many other stressors can affect functionality and productiveness of a person (Karlin, 2018). Such a scenario is also seen in the state of Louisiana department of children and family service. In this department, several cases involving children, parents and foster parents are reported every day. Some of these cases are dire and require immediate response while others require long processes to be followed making them tedious and tiresome. Also, a good number of children and parents that come to the department have undergone stressful and traumatic experiences and have come to seek for assistance. Working in such an environment requires mindfulness to promote an effective working environment. The leadership of the state of Louisiana department of children and family service has developed a culture of mindfulness by bringing mindfulness trainer to train workers and providing materials on mindfulness for the employees.
