Question One: Discuss the Six Images of Change Management
* Change Managers As Director (Controlling Intended Outcomes)
In the context, the director image often views management as controlling as well as change outcomes being attained as planned (Palmer et al., 2017). As a result, the role of the change manager is to steer the organization towards the desired outcomes following the assumption that change involves a strategic management choice that is sorely depended upon for the wellbeing and the survival of the organization. Often, the changes that are implemented under this image are perceived to involve new interventions that would work efficiently to serve the intended purpose. Besides, the change ought to be in a position to work effectively and hence lead to a high performing organization that is closely aligned to its external environment. The change manager is expected to follow the steps outlined in the correct sequence irrespective of the nature of the changes, thus ensuring successful outcomes (Palmer et al., 2017). Notably, the models present are aligned by an optimistic view that the anticipated results of change can be achieved as long as the indicated procedures are duly followed by the managers. Therefore, the best approach would depend on the combination of multiple factors as long as the managers follow the appropriate model, and thus, the intended outcomes should be attained.
* Change Manager As Navigator (Controlling Some Intended Outcomes)
The image follows the rationale that controlling is an instrumental element, but various external factors are put into special consideration, thus providing the change managers with little control over other results. Therefore, the outcomes are at least partly emergent rather than completely planned due to various factors such as influences, competing interests as well as processes (Palmer et al., 2017). Besides, as an explanation of why some changes may stall follows the fact that no amount of advance thinking, planning as well as communication strategies would guarantee success since change is often unpredictable and unwieldy. As a result, for the change process to be effective, the course of change may need to be plotted and repotted with regard to new information and developments. Thus, it is impeccable to identify that there is no guarantee that the final destination will that which was initially desired.
