Introduction
Christians, together with those who contributed to the development of the United States, recommended the application of the biblical concepts in maintaining the government. Any nation will always require a government that will dictate the rules to be followed and to help in maintaining the organization. Even if the first parents did not sin, a government for the nation would still be very necessary. However, this government would be different from what we have today because the nation would be perfect. There would be no chaos, misunderstandings, and crimes because everyone will be striving to do the right thing. The government would make the task of creating rules that control the interactions of the members of the society. The descendants of Adam and Eve would multiply, and eventually, the earth would be full of people. Therefore, a need will still be there to set up rules that will ensure that human society keeps on developing and remaining peaceful.
The Bible highlights various concepts that show the roles of the government to society. Some of the principles include; sin or crime distinction, natural law, inalienable rights, institutional separation of church and state and covenant or federalism. The government is the fact that the world of today cannot run away from. In the Old Testament, before the birth of Jesus Christ, the world was under different governments that guide the conduct of the citizens. The Bible also comes out clearly on how human beings should relate to the government. According to 1st Peter 2: 13 – 14, “submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to the king as the supreme authority or to governors as those sent by him to punish evildoers and praise well-doers” (Version, N. K. J. (2009)
