Application of the Systems Theory in Business
The systems theory, in its original version by biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy, likens the cells or organs to a system that interacts with an environment, such as the human body, for survival. However, in the business context, the concept alludes to the mutual dependence between organizations and the society for vital resources, whereby, for instance, the customers buy goods and services, suppliers provide materials, and employees offer labor (Masys, 2016, p. 231). Accordingly, it is a framework by which one can examine or explain any set of objects that interact to produce some results. Regardless of the business or human body connotation, the systems theory reinforces the idea that components must function in harmony as they are all interrelated and interdependent.
