Deforestation vs. Conservation
While the debate on environmental conservation rages on, the fact that the presence or absence of trees plays a major role on the environment’s health is evident. In trying to conserve the environment, more trees should be planted and their cutting be regulated. This however, is not the view of the opponents. Opponents feel that the benefits of trees, for instance paper, cannot be stopped. The debate, therefore, comes down to benefits of trees to living things against the sustainability of adequate levels of CO2. It seems that a paperless lifestyle is one of the most viable options of reducing deforestation.
Global warming and depletion of ozone are some of the indicators of the diminishing health of our environment. These issues are majorly triggered by excessive cutting down of trees. With the Earth increasingly showing signs of higher temperatures each passing year, more conservationists have come out to voice their stand against activities that pollute the planet such as the manufacture of various wood based products that result from pulling down trees. In addition, more and more wild animals are faced with extinction due to the destruction of their ecological niches by cutting down trees. Extinction of some species of animals is depriving our planet of the diversity it needs. Deforestation causes not only earth threatening problems such as global warming and ozone damage but also leads to the destruction of diversity.
