Abstract
From the mid -19th C, human activities like the burning of fossils, cutting down trees, among other activities, have highly increased the release of the greenhouse gases like Carbon ( IV) Oxide, nitrous oxide, and methane which increases the average temperature. The effect of increasing temperature includes the loss in agricultural land's productivity, soil degradation, reduced freshwater, and ocean acidification. All these effects of global warming have some impacts on human health, which can cause non-communicable diseases like injuries, malnutrition during a famine, natural disaster, and a higher mortality rate during a heatwave because of chronically ill complications in a patient. This paper will thus analyze how the effect of these global warming affects human being's health.
Global warming has been a serious issue since the mid of 19th C due to industrialization. Industrialization resulted in the emission of greenhouse gases which is the chief cause of global warming. Even though an increase in some cases may lead to localized benefits like fewer deaths during winter in temperate regions and increased production of food in some cases, the overall negative effects of global warming on health are really overwhelming and worth being analyzed. Global warming affects the heating of water which increases the transmission of waterborne diseases. The pathogens which are transmitted by vector are specifically very sensitive to change in the climate. Some of the key effects of global warming on human health include natural disasters, poor air quality, extreme heat, and the spread of diseases. These effects of global warming on human beings' health are explained in detail in the following paragraphs.
Global warming results in extreme heat; there are higher temperatures combined with higher humidity for several days. If the general temperature does not reduce, then the extreme temperature will automatically be a killer. Higher air temperature directly contributes to illness and death from cardiovascular and respiratory illness, particularly in elderly individuals CITATION Jay17 \l 1033 (Lemery, 2017). For a heatwave of 2003 summer in Europe, for instance, more than seventy thousand deaths were lost. The high rise in temperature raises the ozone level and other air pollutants, which exacerbate respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Pollen and other aeroallergens can also be treated as higher in extreme heat CITATION Ant13 \l 1033 (McMichael, 2013). These triggers asthma that affects more than three million individuals globally.
Global warming also results in vector-borne illness; these diseases are spread through disease vectors are fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. These vectors are known to transmit infectious pathogens like protozoa, bacteria, and viruses from animals to human beings. Changes in rainfall, temperatures, and extreme weather increase the spread of diseases over the geographical range by vectors and can result in illness CITATION Geo151 \l 1033 (Luber, 2015). Mosquitos always thrive in some climatic conditions and can spread some illnesses such as the West Nile Virus. An increase in temperatures always impacts the number and the location of the mosquitos which spread the West Nile Virus.
