Gun Control in America
In the U.S. gun ownership has become a common thing among Americans. A colossal number, closer to a third of the Americans, own guns. The Second Amendment of the constitution allowed American citizens to own guns. Consequently, that led to the increasing number of gun ownership in the U.S. the gun owners feel that it is their sense of freedom to own guns. It is shocking, however, on the increase in gun violence across the country. There are numerous cases of mass shootings in different cities and more murder cases that happen almost daily. There is a need for concern, and the government needs to act on gun violence matters. The worrying concerns raised regarding gun control are discussed below.
Some states have permissive gun control policies. In these states, there are more gun ownerships compared to others. These states include Colombia (Cousins, 2019). In Florida, for instance, one can buy a gun without having a permit. Moreover, guns are given to persons without gun licensing. It is even worse given it is not mandatory to register the gun after purchase. Florida also permits the purchase of more than one gun on time. As a result, more people, including those who are not worthy of owning guns, own guns (Cousins, 2019). With such permissive restrictions, gun violence is likely to be on a high. People in these states are at risk, and the government seems not to protect them enough.
