According to a study by Pew Research Center (2013), over 90% of America’s adult population own a cell phone. Apparently, it is logical that more than half of the global human population will own a cell phone before the lapse of the current decade. While it is acclaimed as a technology that many would least forego, cell phones have long been estimated to be a danger to human life. As such, while cell phones remain vital for daily human life, their use, and production should be controlled and regulated to avoid some of their obvious dangers to their users. The current paper details the possible dangers that cell phones could cause in humans and advises on the best ways that they could be used to avoid such issues.
One of the main dangers of cell phone usage is the loss of hearing ability to those who use them irresponsibly. Abd El-Hady, Ragab and Salem (2014) established that people who use these gadgets frequently, without keeping the speaker volumes at their minimum, stand a high chance of losing their hearing capability within a few years. Certainly, the human ear has a limit of the volume frequency it can take and surpassing that could lead to the loss of the sense of hearing. Therefore, it is advisable for cell phone users to control the volumes of their gadgets to ensure that they avoid the imminent dangers that could prove disastrous to their normal living.
Additionally, road safety experts have estimated that as more people continue using cell phones, the rate of road accidents is poised to increase if necessary interventions are not initiated urgently (Young, 2013). Road users, mostly vehicle drivers and pedestrians, are the main players who could fall victim to the dangers of cell phone usage. Primarily, cell phone usage while on the road leads to distractions and hinders effective judgment, which could lead to accidents. In this regard, it is important that cell phone users, especially those who use roads regularly, ensure that they adopt responsible ways for their use. Effectively, with proper cell phone usage while on the road, cases of road accidents will significantly reduce.
Moreover, some studies, in recent years, have had to investigate the claims that cell phone usage has led to the development of cancer among humans. Some users have argued that the radio frequencies which enable cell phone operation could lead to cancer among humans. While most studies refute these claims, their persistence raises questions and induce an urge for users to be careful (Printz, 2010). Currently, cancer is rated as one of the popular killer diseases in the world and its development should be inhibited at all costs. Therefore, despite the inadequacy of evidence that cell phones do cause cancer, users should ensure that they purchase products that are marked safe for use; mainly from the health perspective.
