The link between climate change and population growth is irrefutable. A high population leads to increased consumption and deforestation. Consequently, there is an increasing burning of fossil fuels, the source of carbon emission. On the other hand, deforestation reduces the amount of carbon leaving the atmosphere. Integrating population growth controls with global initiatives to combat climate change, such as the Paris Accord, is necessary. A higher population requires more energy that is generated through burning fossil fuels leading to higher carbon emissions. Intentional population controls through family planning reduce the demand for energy and land and consequently lowers emissions.
