The correlation between research participants and action research is requisite to the quality of investigation yield. The level of trust needs to be maintained and well nurtured to ensure a long life duration for the research which leads to a manageable study (Bradbury-Huang, 2010). The center for action research is trust, honesty, and respect. Trust is developed by principles that are set during the study, regular practices, and consolations of the confidentiality and each member’s secrecy on action research. Action research can be defined as a way of learning by doing by a group of people who identify a situation, work on possibilities of resolving it and eventually gauging on how successful they are. However, when success is yet to be attained, the process is done again with different strategies incorporated. Action research can be differentiated from other problem-solving activities which individuals engage on a daily basis depending on the impact of the approach undertaken.
The process of action research entails a few stages (Bradbury-Huang, 2010). First, there is a diagnosis of the problem whereby the problem of the research is identified. Then, action planning is done, and here, alternatives to the problem are tabled out. Thirdly, the course of action is selected while taking an appropriate measure to ensure maximum results. Eventually, the results are evaluated, and the consequences of the study are assessed. The research is then summed up by identifying the general findings and conclusions and analysis drawn out.
Since the focus of action research is solving problems, it is used when dealing with real situations (Smith,2010). However, scientists use it for preliminary or pilot research for ambiguous situations which aids in framing precise research questions. Concurrently, it is selected when flexibility is required, and people are involved in the research with change expected to take place quickly. In most cases, practitioners are the individuals who apply action research as they would occasionally want to understand more about their practice. In addition, social change activists and students would incorporate such a study in the event they try to make an action campaign.
Principles of action research.
The research is guided by certain principles which make it a unique flavor to other research designs (Smith,2010). First, action research consists of a reflective critique. In this, there is an account of a situation through notes, official documents or transcripts which enhance authoritative claims imply factuality. This principle ensures individuals can reflect on explicit issues, biases, assumptions, and process which make explicit judgments.
