Abstract
Introduction: The recent move by Saudi Arabia to lift the ban on women driving has elicited discussions about its impact on the country’s social environment. Women's empowerment is considered the kingdom’s priority in the Vision 2030 plan, as it reduces high unemployment rates among women in KSA. The royal decree delivered in September 2017, which allowed women to get driving licenses, is considered a remarkable change that focuses on empowering women in KSA.
Objectives: The purpose of this project is to investigate whether women driving in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have a positive or negative impact on the country’s social environment.
Methods: The study involved collecting data through an online survey, which was designed to explore responses, attitudes, and perceptions of both males and females in Saudi Arabia to women driving and the impact of this on the country’s social environment. The sample used for the study consisted of 60 respondents; 71.7% were male and 28.3% female.
Results: Most participants agreed that women driving are linked to numerous positive impacts, with equality being the main one. The respondents identified more traffic as the only negative impact of women driving.
Conclusion: Women driving have helped in easing transportation in the kingdom and increased employment opportunities.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) recently moved to a remarkable revolution of allowing women to drive, which is focused on empowering women, an aspect of Vision 2030 (Alsulaiman & Rentner, 2021). According to the vision, KSA has a roadmap aimed at creating a sustainable future and fulfilling its goals. The significant aspects covered in Vision 2020 are a thriving economy, a vibrant society, and an ambitious goal focused on decreasing the kingdom’s reliance on oil to enhance public service sectors and diversify its economy. Women's empowerment is considered the kingdom’s priority in the plan, as it is linked to the achievement of the most important goals (Wheeler, 2020). Additionally, it will help reduce high unemployment rates among women in KSA.
