System archetypes help in analyzing a problem in an organization. The primary cause of the problem in Children's Hospital Boston was due to medical errors and malpractice. The three medical errors caused by doctors in the hospital resulted in death. To come up with an appropriate solution, the paper analyses the most suitable system archetype that could help the hospital to fix the problem.
Discussion
The system archetype that can provide a solution to the events in the case study is "Shifting the Burden," as shown below.
The archetype provides immediate effect, thus solving the problem. Route B1 and B2 show how the archetype elevates a problem system, and at the same time, it decreases the overall pressure that is always available when implementing a more critical solution. In the case study, the hospital can apply the archetype by starting with awareness of the problem that marks a problem system in the diagram.
