Y‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌ou will complete a short essay that answers a question about that issue, using the sources and general media that we have covered in class for the unit. You may not use outside materials for issue papers. Sources should be cited using Chicago style, and the paper should include a bibliography. Each paper should be 550 words in length. The topic to write about: In what ways did the "Columbian Exchange" re-shape global consumption patterns from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries? In the cases we've considered in this unit, what cultural or pol‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌itical perceptions have driven resource consumption or conservation? Use at least three examples from the course materials for the Humans and Environment unit, video and secondary source reading materials. To answer this question, you must use a variety of the sources for the unit. I attached two reading source materials and linked two video sources to use. Like it states above, no outside sources, only the ones I've linked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuFL5ETw6oQ https://www.ted.com/talks/jason_clay_how_big_brands_can_help_save_biodiversity?language=e‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌n

The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of living and non-living things, ideas, practices, and diseases across the globe, between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Columbian Exchange had both positive and negative impacts, which led to significant influences in cultures and population growth within different continents. For instance, the transfer of animals and crops between the old world and the new world led to interaction behaviors resulting in a rise in diseases, technological advancements, and innovations. This exchange also enhanced the availability of some products such as sugar, which were initially regarded as luxury substances, but later on became essential items. The increased diversity of services and products impacted the need for specialization among humans to seek solutions to the rising problems. The availability o various breeds for the plants and animals also motivated farmers to adopt both plant farming and animal husbandry. The development of new species also came into existence to ensure the production of suitable breeds in different environments.[Tom Standage. 2010. New World, New Foods.]
