Introduction
Innovation is very vital to the success of any business organization, however big or small the organization is. Most small business in Asia are risking their performance across total revenue, their business efficiency, staff or customer satisfaction and market share because of lack of innovation in conducting the business. There is a relationship between investment in technology and innovation and the gains of productivity. There is research that attempted to foretell the acceptance of new technology and innovation and the general progress of business industries (Lamoreaux and Sokoloff 2007, p. 23). The fundamental of this research is the inclusion is the addition of nature of innovation as being the key variable in the progress of a business.
In this paper, there is the focus on the role played by innovation and creativity in the success of a business organization. Innovation must never be confused with invention. Invention is an action of creating a new typical process or device while innovation is a new method, idea, product of carrying out usual business. Small business though tries to incorporate the new ideas and innovation; there is an external pressure that has an impact on them adopting the new behavior (Oyelaran-Oyeyinka and McCormick 2007, p. 34-39). The role of innovation can be as simple as refining business process or implementing a new culture of valuing new ideas.
Innovation in a business has many benefits to the small scale business owners. It helps them evaluate the performance of the business and focus on their workplace culture. Innovation also helps them attract next generation staffs that are very much in the research world and have very noble ideas they can add to a growing business, and this includes the recent university graduates who can turn their theoretical knowledge into practical and help an existing business reduce the cost of production. The new task force in a business premise tries to give their best to the latest trends in technology and customer service provision. It helps a business enterprise to be flexible in their normal business operations, flexible working arrangements to the staff and flexibility in the mode and rate of production (McNall and Basile 2011, p.132-135). As a result of innovation, a company can liaise with other companies and even the government who can do a lot to help build networks that further improve innovation and helps in establishing the right culture that consequently benefits in gaining focus and change work culture or unlock innovation. Innovation is not just copying or emulating the idea in another business enterprise, depending on their set strategies and how their systems work, what might work for them may not be necessarily for you. The advantage of innovation is not a way of doing well in business or making more money; it goes beyond this. It is about bringing up the entrepreneurship identity of any business enterprise and moving in the right circle. The benefits of being innovative in a startup business or taking it a notch high to develop is far much better than the benefits of directly copying another organization idea or business model (Lim 1999, p. 89-93). Learning organization is a place where people repeatedly expand their capacity to create results and where new pattern of thinking nurtured, and aspirations set free and people are constantly learning how to learn. Learning organization work is based on the five core learning disciplines that are a representative of lifelong program of personal and organizational practice.
Picture showing high effective learning organization
The first discipline is the personal mastery where individuals learn how they can expand their personal capacity to create desirable results and encourages other employees to develop themselves towards the goal and purpose desired (Wesley and Barczak 2010, p. 56-60). The second is the mental model, where individual continually reflect on improving their internal picture and change personal decision. Third is the shared vision where individuals build commitments within their workgroups and develop common practice for desired future. The fourth on is the team learning that involves developing intelligence in groups greater than the group talent. Finally, is sys...
