In this essay, I will critically look in-depth at my cultural position in terms of values and beliefs and how this belief may affect me as a nurse offering healthcare services to the first people of Australia. The topic of cultural safety, self-determination, and collaboration among the indigenous community of the Aboriginal Australian will also be discussed deeply. I will discuss this showing how it may affect my future career as a nurse while offering health care to the Aboriginals of Australia.
I was born and raised in a very different environment from that of the indigenous people of Australia. My family taught me traditions and Christian ethics. I was taught the cultural values which were affiliated in the Christian context, these values included, respect to the elders, forgiveness, trustfulness, obedience among other values. On the other side, Christianity values included, attending to the church, love, being an ambassador of peace among others. All this input together has played a vital role in sharpening my behavior as an adult. Being born in Nigeria I believe that my Christianity and cultural beliefs are well understood in my native country for we share a common ancestry and cultural values. There is a clear gap in cultural beliefs and Christian values between myself and the Australian first people and myself, as a result, this will influence my attitude towards
