Leadership Impact on Employee Engagement
Employee engagement is a vital issue that implies a more productive workforce. It entails the emotional enthusiasm and commitment of employees to achieve the organization's strategic objectives in which they work, thus leading to its overall success. Employee engagement directly affects the critical outcomes of the organization, such as profitability, innovation, customer satisfaction and retention, innovation, turnover, and productivity (Albrecht 2011, pp. 32). Although employee engagement does not necessarily mean happiness, it is hard to get an engaged employee who is not happy. There is a significant correlation between leadership and employee engagement. Effective leadership leads to engaged employees, while ineffective leadership results in disengaged employees (Wiley, 2010, pp. 47). Leadership, therefore, has various implications for employee engagement. The impacts are both negative and positive.
The relationship between the employees and the employer influences the behavioral and economic outcomes of the organization. As a result, leader-employee relations become vital in defining the level of employee engagement in the organization (Albrecht 2011, pp. 34). In turbulent periods of the business and the periods of change, such as rapid economic growth, leaders who understand factors that drive the engagement of employees can establish a workforce that has a high motivation to perform
