It is the desire of every person in this world to be successful in his or her life. Success is broadly the attainment of a goal. Nonetheless, according to Drummond, the objective that individuals and organizations seek to secure, tend to differ (43). For instance, the management of business will be motivated to achieve high productivity while a student might look forward to high scores in tests and examinations. Nevertheless, it is of central importance to create a roadmap if one is to register optimal success.
The creation of a roadmap to success starts with designating goals and objectives that one wants to achieve. Thus, goals are primarily the targets that an individual would like to meet at a certain point in future. The second step is an analysis in which, a person or a group conduct an in-depth breakdown of their personality to determine the underlying strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, according to Kukreja, several tools are available to assist in carrying out such an exercise, including SWOT Analysis and Porter’s five forces (par. 4). Also, when one uses these tools appropriately, Kukreja purported that the potential opportunities and threats that a person or an organization is likely to face are provided (par. 4). Nevertheless, rather than dwelling on the relevant merits and drawbacks of the analysis tools identified previously in this paragraph, it is recommended that a person or community should determine the manner in which to take lessons learned to the next level.
Besides goal setting and analysis, options assessment and evaluation is a further critical step in creating a roadmap to success. Thus, this particular action is relatively intense, given that it calls for decision-making under uncertainty. According to Drummond, the phase requires a person or entity to spend enormous time trying to differentiate among various assumptions, scenarios, and decisions among others (43). Also, the essence of the options assessment and evaluation step is to determine the possible effects or outcomes of a specified strategic move regarding the goals set. Furthermore, according to Drummond, the option that a person sees as the best for fulfilling his or her aims and purposes might ultimately prove to be deficient (43). Hence, it is the duty of a person creating the roadmap to success to be overly careful and thoughtful in evaluating the various strategic options.
