Beat Furrer was born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland in 1954 and later moved to Vienna in 1975 where he studied conducting with taught by Roman Haubenstock at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. Furrer founded the Klangforum Wien and directed until 1992 and he is still associated as a conductor. He composed “Die Blinden” his first opera commissioned by the Vienna State Opera. In 1991, Furrer became a full composition professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz. He also produced outstanding work in 2006 entitled “FAMA” and was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale.
