The novel, Seed Folks, by Paul Fleischman uses 13 narrators to tell a story of a neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio that consists of immigrants. The book narrates how the neighborhood came together to plant a community garden. It begins with a young girl named Kim who planted lima beans during one cold morning in April. Ana who was a nosy neighbor dug the plants up thinking that Kim had planted illegal plants. However, she feels bad about it and she asks Wendell to assists her to replant the beans. Wendell feels that he should plant something on the garden too. When the weather warms up, more gardeners join. Gonzalo and his uncle, Tio Juan, get an opportunity to bond during gardening adventure. Leona is responsible for removing trash from the garden. Sam thinks of ways to bring water to the garden.
