The organization derives its competitive upper hand from its international footmark and its track record of promoting value for clients worldwide (Lingard 224). Even in the present slumping environment, Unilever has managed to expand at a respectable pace. The company has several strengths that make it a true global leader in consumer goods. For instance, the company has a broad portfolio of brands and has a diverse product range. The company also has several opportunities to explore in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market segment. The rise in Western imitation and influences on emerging markets' lifestyles, for instance, leave vast preferences and taste in the market, and the company can tap into this diverse market to expand its products. This paper discusses the strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities for Unilever.
Strengths
Unilever has a universal footprint and top of mind brand recall among customers in about 190 countries. As a result, this geographic reach gives the company an unrivaled global presence, inclusive of a unique position in emerging marketing, which generates 58% of the company turnover (Lingard 225). The company also has a deep and broad portfolio of brands. The company’s leading brands include Persil, Magnum, Brut, Ben & Jerry’s, Knorr, Lipton, Vaseline, Pot Noodle, and Marmite. Putting this portfolio of brands together has allowed Unilever to create considerable synergies in distribution, manufacturing, and marketing.
