VIKTOR FRANKL BIOGRAPHY
Viktor E Frankl was a psychiatrist (Medical doctor) and professor of psychiatry before and after World War II. He was born in 1905 in the city of Vienna, Austria and died in 1997. He was a holder of MD and Ph.D. degrees. He was also an author and survived the Germany Holocaust after spending three years in Nazi concentration camps.
Being Jews, Dr. Frankl and his wife were both captured and then sent to different camps where Frankl was unable to make any contact with his wife. During that period, he held on to the hope that his wife might still be alive. That's what kept him going. Unfortunately, after his release from Auschwitz prison, he discovered that his wife was killed soon after the capture.
Frankl wrote several books after the war which were inspired by the memories and notes written during his time as a prisoner and how he survived the ordeal. Among the books published was Man’s Search for Meaning, which was published in 1946 and it’s still in print till today. His reason for writing the book was to show that even in the most adverse conditions, life still holds a significant meaning. In the book, he states that “The last inner freedom cannot be lost... It is this spiritual freedom – which cannot be taken away – that makes life meaningful and purposeful.”
