Marijuana refers to a psychoactive substance which is obtained from Cannabis plant. This substance is intended mainly for medical use but is sometimes used for recreational purposes. It enters the system mainly through smoking and sometimes within food. Marijuana is more beneficial as a legal substance than as an illegal drug. There are many reasons to support this argument.
Legalizing marijuana will get rid of black markets. For a long time, black market has been the place to obtain marijuana. In order to get it you have to know someone who knows someone, who is a drug dealer. Some drug dealers even have links to terrorist organizations in certain countries CITATION Ran03 \p 69 \l 1033 (Mehling 69). Legalizing marijuana will cripple the business of such terrorist organizations. Furthermore, marijuana dispensaries can be registered and taxed which will be for the good of the economy.
Legalization will make medicinal cannabis readily available. Medicinal cannabis has been known to treat a range of medical conditions such as: Epilepsy, Migraines, Cancer, and Multiple sclerosis among many others CITATION Wil02 \p 36 \l 1033 (Goodwin 36). Availing medicinal marijuana products to those suffering from such conditions means an enhancement in public health. This would lead to increase in public funds available for public safety measures.
