African American Letters on Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of the historical shifts in the American population and happened in the early 20th century. Notably, the Chicago Defender was a Black-American newspaper that contains national leadership, supported the migration, and highly encouraged its readers to travel to Chicago. The letters written by the blacks from the Southern part who desired to migrate to North parts. In the letters, the African – Americans highlight several reasons as to why they decided to migrate to the North. Some of the factors that encouraged blacks to write these letters include.
In one of the letters, the Africans –Americans were determined to know the conditions of those people who lived in the Northern parts. The people from the south part were eager to see how the situation was in the north since, in the south, they faced a lot of challenges. In the letter, they wanted to know how their people have settled, or they are experiencing any challenges. The letter served as the guide in settling the motive dominant in the minds of the refugees who think life in the south was difficult, and they were eager to get any information about better life there in the northern part.
