How has photography been used a tool for social critique from 1832 to the present?
The art and design industry has evolved due to several reasons, which are also evidenced in other aspects of society. Categorically, the photography industry transition has been made possible as a result of more research in the industry, demand for quality pictures as well as continuous adoption and utilization of technology therein (Belden-Adams, 2019). In elaboration, advancement in the technology world has led to a transformation in the photography industry as the shift been capture from mere black/white pictures to color pictures. This has been made possible through the use of powerful cameras with high definition and revolutions (Braun, 2020). Also, since people desired beautiful and clear pictures, it led to several interventions towards meeting the demands of society. In showcasing the history of photography, four different images are utilized herein. The photographs considered are different in terms of time era, the motivation of the artists, issues being addressed as well as accomplished goals with pictures.

Martin Parr, who is a British photographer, started his artwork in 1952. He is significantly a renowned artist in photography in modern history. His extensive work of photography was capturing his interest in consumerism, globalization as well as mass tourism. Therefore, his photographs were perceived as critical of the England population regardless of the impacts on used mediums and quality (Belden-Adams, 2019). Even though Parr had a passion for economic aspects such as mass tourism, consumerism, and globalization, he was fixed on capturing the effects of wastefulness and vulgarity in the world. Through utilizing color photographs, he wanted the world population, mainly the British, to check on their misuse of consumable goods, which were being used during his era of artwork (Braun, 2020). To emphasize such wastefulness and ostentation, he did his first mega project, “The Last Resort.” In 1986, Parr also published a book to capture on wastefulness on people in the globe in reflecting on the mass tourism and consumerism (Braun, 2020).
Motivation
Martin Parr was motivated by the irrational misuse of consumable goods in England and the rest of the globe. As a result of vulgarity and wastefulness pegged by people in mass tourism and consumerism, he realized the need to share to change such a scaring pattern in resource utilization (Belden-Adams, 2019). In the above photograph 1, he captured two children bearing ice cream that dribbled down on their faces, clothes, hands. The messy appearances imply cases of neglecting and carelessness among the parents leading to significant wastefulness. Based on the shared pictures, he was suggesting that wastefulness comes as a result of people forgoing their responsibility in society (Braun, 2020).
Consequently, without the appropriate use of consumer goods, there is not waste which pegged negative impacts on consumers but also pollution of the environment (Braun, 2020). Therefore, to limit cases of resources, wastefulness, accountability, and responsibility among the people involved is critical. Martin Parr was also motivated by using color photographs. This resulted in a clear refection on wastefulness that occurs in mass tourism leading to resource depletion and environmental pollution (Belden-Adams, 2019). It also made him capture on no protection on the interest of consumers as the relevant authorities failed their respective reasonability. This implies through authority application and accountability by the consumers; there are no cases of wastefulness that have negative impacts on consumer goods as well as on the environment.
Goals
Martin Parr was purposed in exposing the wastefulness and vulgarity in the world. Through the use of color photographs, he made the global population realized significant wastefulness in globalization, mass tourism, and consumerism (Belden-Adams, 2019). Parr did not achieve the goal of exposing wasteful but also through “The Last Resort” formed unforgiving spotlight of Thatcherism. Thatcherism was constituted by conviction, social, political as well as economical style thus supporting entry of Britain in the European Economic Community (Braun, 2020). This implies that exposure of wastefulness in Britain through the light shared by Parr led to the need to venture into a conservative state in resource utilization and consumption (Belden-Adams, 2019).
Reason for choosing the photograph
I chose this photograph as it exposes the misuses and wastefulness of not consumable goods but also natural resources in the modern era (Belden-Adams, 2019). This implies that the current shortage of natural resources has been facilitated by some irresponsible few individuals somewhere around the globe. With attached accountability as well as specific responsibility, cases of theft, trading inferior quality goods, and service will be eliminated. Consequently, there will be increased consumer goods availability and quality, no price exploitation, and elimination of environmental pollution.

Fay Godwin is one of the renowned photographers in the industry (1931–2005). Godwin was considered the most exceptional landscape photographer in Britain (Braun, 2020). Even though she was recording black and white photographs, the pictures were clear, thus bringing the goals of her artwork. She captured photos reflecting the diverse as well as changing the nature of the landscape in Britain. Godwin has exceptional skills in capturing nature, which was primarily characterized by land, sky, and sea. The intention of the artist, Godwin, was to draw the attention of people on significant detrimental impacts that present as well as past generations pegged on the natural environment (Gervais and Gaлlle, 2017). This implies that Fay Godwin was interested in asserting the increasing cases of pollutions as well as misuse and inaccessibility of natural resources such as forests. Motivation
Fay Godwin was motivated by several factors. She was propelled by the love for the natural environment; land, water, and sky. As a result of such passion, she found the need to capture photographs of the natural environment (Braun, 2020). Since much pressure was being inserted into the natural environment, deterioration of the beautiful landscape of Britain was on the fade. Consequently, she continued in photographing the natural environment to capture the detrimental impacts due to the activities of man. Consequently, soon her artwork received additional impacts on the audience, thus efforts towards mitigating the activities of man towards the natural environment.
