Effective and Appropriate Methods of Stress Management
Stress involves emotional, cognitive, behavioral reactions experienced by an individual in response to threats in their immediate environment (Broman-Fulks and Kelso 3). The body undergoes psychological and physiological changes that force the individual to adopt coping mechanisms to the available resources (Broman-Fulks and Kelso 4). Eating a healthy diet avails essential nutrients such as vitamin C that helps the immune system in preventing further stress (Singh 3). On the other hand, complex carbohydrates such as whole grains trigger the brain to release serotonin which alleviates mood (Broman-Fulks and Kelso 9). This paper offers alternative stress management techniques that are healthy compared to the coping mechanisms that entail chocolate and alcohol intake.
Alcohol Consumption. High levels of stress bring about lifestyle and behavioral changes that can affect a healthy individual. In some cases, the individuals who experience high stress engage in increased alcohol consumption (Broman-Fulks and Kelso 7). Alcohol increases cortisol levels which put more pressure on the nerves and can prolong the feeling of tension associated with the stress responses
