Retirement Age
Retirement age is the statutory age threshold at which an individual is expected, and in some cases, required, to terminate paid employment and benefit from a pension and other government benefits. As noted, the key determinant in retirement age policy is the year of birth. However, while this factor is clear, the optimal age for retirement varies across countries, historical epochs, among other variable determinants. This essay reflects on these variable perspectives and concludes that the optimal age should be in the middle band of about 62 to 65 years of age.
