The Crucifixion of Jesus
The crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago is a very important event since it the foundation of the Christian faith. According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was betrayed by Judas who was one of the twelve disciples. He was brought before the Sanhedrin (the Jewish council) for challenging the status quo. He was ultimately condemned to death by Pilate on the insistence of the crowd despite being innocent of all charges levelled against Him. The journey to the crucifixion begins when Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey colt during the Passover festival which is a very important period to the Jews. This paper will focus on why the Romans crucified Jesus and how He reacted during the entire crucifixion process and also highlight on the scriptures which foretell of this event. The study is based on Luke 23: 26- 49.
Jesus enters the Holy City on a colt’s back surrounded by people who are singing praises to Him (White, web). The following day, He goes into the temple and he upsets the money changer’s tables stating that they have turned the house of God into a den of thieves.
