The Purpose and Mission Statement for Childhaven
The Childhaven organization aims to help children with developmental delays or behavioral issues to adapt and develop through early interventions and early learning. As a result, most of the children in the program will not need special education in school and will grow at the same pace as children without development issues. The mission statement for the organization is “committed to racial equity and social justice by fostering inclusiveness, valuing diversity and racial representation, facilitating healing, and promoting avenues to equitable systems by addressing disparities in the workplace, healthcare, and education. We do this with respect, self-awareness, authentic engagement, and a willingness to learn from one another and our communities” (Childhaven, 2019). Through the mission statement, the organization can focus on marginalized children and therefore reduce the incidences of children with special needs among the minority.
To attend the programs offered at Childhaven, one has to prove that the child has developmental and behavioral issues. Anyone can recommend a child to join, but the organization must consult the parents before commencing any program on the child (Childhaven, 2019). The organization has three services.
One of the services is early learning, where the organization offers an intensive day program to children with developmental and behavioral issues (Childhaven, 2019). The program has a low teacher-child ratio to ensure that the teacher has the maximum attention on the child. Early learning also involves parental classes, medical supervision, and therapy for the children to aid their development. Through this program, the organization can create a long-lasting impact on how the child grows, learns, and regulates their emotions. The program enrolls children who are below six years of age. The program is also helpful for parents as it educates them on ways of treating the child at home.
Another program offered is an early intervention centered on infants and toddlers who have disabilities and delays in their development. The services in this program include speech therapy, special education, and occupational therapy (Childhaven, 2019). Children below the age of three years are eligible for the program. Lastly, the organization offers a counseling program, and it focuses on supporting the development and emotional health of children who are below thirteen years of age through therapies such as musical therapies and family therapy, amongst others. 
Source of Funding for Childhaven
According to its website, the source of funding for the organization is mainly through sponsorships. Other organizations and individuals usually sponsor Childhaven through monetary contributions and volunteer work. The public can go and help the community through building maintenance, classroom cleaning, and fundraising support. Groups can also participate in volunteer work by having a day scheduled and specific functions given to them.
Justification for Having Such a Program
According to Morrison (2017), parents need to select childcare programs that employ caregivers who are capable of understanding their role in children’s development. Morrison (2017) further elucidates that a child’s development can be completed through the normal environment and being attached only to the parents. Ferguson et al. (2018) explain that children born with special needs are likely to improve and to have a better quality of life through early intervention. It is important to note that Childhaven only offers programs for children who are having issues in development, either they are having behavioral or developmental issues.
