How Celebrities Influence Teenagers Being Their Fans
Introduction
Obsession with phenomenal beings is not a new or an emerging concept. This social behavior can be traced back to ancient Greece and Rome where people created gods who possessed human like traits and flaws and were revered (Chikezie & Uzuegbunam, 2017). Glamour is therefore a trait that will forever irk the mind of human being. One prime example of glamour is celebrity status. Times may have changed but the concept still remains. Celebrity status is a state of being well known for excellent performance in a certain field, sports or entertainment. The modern 21st Century presents various avenues for deriving celebrity status. Some of the prominent fields include sports, music, movie industry, social media influencers and literature. The contemporary world of celebrity influence is fueled by the media. These celebrities have the power to set agendas on major, controversial and trivial issues bearing great effect on personality traits in society. Exposure of young people to a wide variety set of media have raised concerns over the influence of these celebrities or idols/icons, as famously known. Some, teenagers, have in the past been identified to having excessive star chasing which is not healthy. Others simply overlook the character and values of their chosen idols resulting in blind worshipping. I hope that teenagers understand whether idols are good for us or not and warn edifying the harm of excessive star-chasing and blind worship through the study of the impact of idols on young people.
