Some of the ideologies that the founding fathers' hand in mind have fallen short in recognizing "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." As stated in the united states declaration of independence.

Political independence has allowed states to pass and enforce their own laws in favor of the largest demographic in that state. On the other hand, the constitution also allows individual states to have their own standards and requirements for one to eligible as a voter. While one state allows convicts to participant in elections, others do not allow those with criminal records to participate in elections.
