Euthanasia Student's Name Instructor Course Date Euthanasia From a health perspective, some patients, healthcare providers, and families opt for euthanasia. Conversely, the medical process raises many moral questions causing some people to oppose it. Despite the contrasting positions, euthanasia should be legal; it helps end unnecessary suffering and prioritizes quality of life over the length. Euthanasia is a reasonable intervention to end unnecessary suffering for terminally ill patients. Despite the attachment between family members and the patient, suffering prompted by terminal illness is usually unbearable as the chances of recovering are minimal. Terminating a life when the pain is debilitating is a huge relief to the patients and their families; it is the most appropriate action to end suffering.1 In the same case, terminally ill patients do not have many options even if they continue living. Generally, such patients continue consuming many expensive drugs, implying that helping them out of the situation is justified. Euthanasia should be legal since the quality of life is more important than the length of life. Mostly, people opposed to euthanasia always argue from a religious viewpoint based on the principle that killing is immoral. Despite the argument making sense to many people, it is purely based on emotions and largely impractical. Patients requesting euthanasia are usually under unbearable pain that others cannot understand.2 People opposed to the practice argue that it is better to live, but death is always the most rational way of ending the intolerable pain. Prolonging life at this point implies extending suffering. The patient continues suffering, and many die soon after. By ending suffering and torture, euthanasia promotes the quality of life, rationalizing its application as a medical process.
