At Louisiana Christian University students are required to attend their classes with missed classes not exceeding ten, and any students who fails to attend more than ten classes of a semester is automatically graded as having failed irrespective of the cumulative grades or marks that they attain in their end of semester or in their final test. This attendance requirement should be eliminated for all students’ sophomores, juniors and seniors. The responsibility of missing classes should be left to the student as they are responsible for their performance at the university. A student who misses classes but still manages to get a good grade in their end of semester exams and quizzes demonstrates that although they have missed some classes they take their studies seriously and have taken extra measures to ensure that they perform well through spending their free time to study or learn what they missed in class. It should not be assumed that a student’s deliberately misses their classes because of laziness or lack of seriousness for their studies. Often times they miss these classes for various understandable reasons like being unwell, being away attending to personal or family related issues or even due to lack of funding to facilitate their attendance. Sometimes a student will miss a class as they attend to other urgent university matters like having an urgent assignment that is due or needs a bit of extra time for research and completion. When this happens and a student who has missed a class should take the responsibility to catch up with the missed class on their own without involving the instructor or creating extra work for the instructor. They will not approach the instructor for material or notes that they missed but will seek other means of doing this. They will either before or after missing the class liaise with a fellow student to update them of the fore goings of the class and can even send a fellow a student with a recording device to the class to record the class on their behalf, which they can listen to during their free time to enable them catch up. In the instance that during the class or classes missed there was a test or quiz given, the student will not expect the instructor to provide make up tests or quizzes or be given the same as a makeup assignment, they will need to work on their own on how to make up for missed quiz.
