WHAT IS SEEN IS NOT SEEN (Movie Review Sample)

Instructions:
the link that follows below you should find Bastiat's essay "What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen." Read through these sections: the introduction (1.1-1.5), Part 1. The Broken Window (1.6-1.21), Part 5. Public Works (1.82-1.94) and Part 6. Middlemen (1.95-1.125). You are, of course, more than welcome to read the whole essay.Think about it, in the context of this course (War, Globalization, and Terrorism) and others you have taken, and write an essay in response. Whether you agree or disagree makes no difference. I am primarily interested in you engaging with the material and constructing an argument for or against it. You are free to use any other resources that you think appropriate but need not use any at all. I see no great gulf between where you are now and where you want to be: that goal is reasonable. Here, then, is an unusual extra credit assignment, not necessarily an easy one, but one that might perhaps be interesting. At the link that follows below you should find Bastiat's essay "What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen." Name: Tutor: Course: Date: What is seen and what is not seen In the world of economics, public service and trade, any act, institutions or policies produces a chain of effects. The first effect in most cases tends to be immediate and it is what is seen. However, some effects appear subsequently after the act is over and sometimes are not foreseeable (Bastiat and Hodgson 10). This is what is called what is not seen. Any actor whether in private capacity, business or public service should consider both what is seen and what is unseen in order to produce the greatest utility. It is on the above consideration that I fully support this essay. In the world of economics, players should be more concerned on the long term public good while coming up with policies. It follows that economic actions which sound to be popular in the short run may be very disastrous in the long term (Dicken 33). Destruction caused by wartime activities can be a major cause of employment to the warfare industry, army and the people involved in the post-war reconstruction. The above players will benefit economically from this unfortunate engagement. They can thus agitate for military intervention even at the slightest provocation. Looking at the scenario in the long term, it would be advisable for the government to engage in non-combative tactics to end the crisis instead of engaging in war. There would be lots of saving of funds which can be diverted into other economically productive areas. One of the key functions of a sitting government is the provision of security and building infrastructure like roads, rails and canals among others (Powell 41). On the side of security, state agents should build capacity to gather intelligence and protect citizens from terrorist attacks. All these activities are fun...
