Jubal Early was born in the County of Virginia November 1816, to a famous politician and farmer. He was raised up on a plantation until 1833 when he joined a Military Academy at the West Point. Upon graduation in 1837 he had earned a reputation for being ill-tempered CITATION Mar07 \l 1033 (leepson, 2007). His irascible character led to General Lewis Armistead resigning from the Academy.
He was commissioned into the Regiment of the Artillery and fought in the Second Seminole war which took place between 1835 and 1842. He resigned in 1838 to study law, which he emerged as one of the best lawyers and he became a member of the House of Delegates of Virginia in 1841. Later he became the commonwealth’s attorney. He served this position while still volunteering in the Mexican-American war as an officer.
He started American Civil war as the colonel in command of the brigade of Virginia at the first Bull Run battle. He led his army and successfully drove out the forces of the Union out of the field this led to his promotion to acting as the general of the brigade. In 1862 May he was wounded while in the fight against the Union in Williamsburg battle.
Jubal was then moved to Second Corps of General Thomas. In which he played a major role in Cedar Mountain Battle in 1862. He also served the Second Bull Run battle and became the command of the division in the Antietam battle in 1862 September. Later he was promoted to a major general and worked towards the victory of Confederate in Chancellorsville battle; his forces performance in the Salem Church battle, where they helped in delaying the forces of General Sedgwick and quickened the retreat of the Union forcesCITATION His \l 1033 (Staff, 2009).
He led the invasion of Pennsylvania, captured it and demanded ransoms from York and Gettysburg towns. In 1864 he was put in charge of the Shenandoah Valley independent campaign and formed an army that drove out the troops of the Union that was led by General David Hunter after the Lynchburg battle out of Shenandoah Valley.
July 1864 he came to Washington with his forces and held the Chambersburg and Pennsylvania towns into cavalry. Failure for his demands for gold to be met he burnt down Washington town in retaliation. In response, the Union forces gathered in large numbers attacked Early’s forces and managed to defeat him, with his troops being destroyed completely during the battles. He...
